In the spring of 2017, SEAoO sponsored 6 students from UC and UT to attend the 2017 NASCC.  The students wrote a summary of the sessions that they attended--click to view: SEAoO Student Summaries 2017 NASCC.pdf

In the spring of 2017, students at The Ohio State University hosted the Ohio Valley Student Conference (OVSC).  This ASCE regional competition features steel bridge, concrete canoe, surveying, technical writing and more.  Results are posted and can be found here: 2017 OVSC Student Competition Results

Thank You Notes From Our Students:

To Whom It May Concern:

On behalf of the University of Cincinnati SEAoO Student Chapter and all students in attendance, we would like to thank all professionals for your participation in the event. We all enjoyed networking with you and the advice we received. Thank you for making this year’s event a success. I have received nothing but positive feedback.

I would specifically like to thank John Reese, Shawn Webster, and Ian McElhone for their excellent presentations. All three presentations offered a unique insight into the structural engineering field. The topics: bridge engineering, industrial building engineering, and the owner’s representative side, revealed different career paths in structural engineering that students can pursue. Lastly, we would like to specifically thank Mindy Barber, our student chapter advisor for her help organizing the event.

As mentioned before, we greatly appreciate everyone who participated in this year’s Student Mentoring Night. We hope to see you at next year’s Student Mentoring Night!

Thank you,
Brent Bohman
President, UC SEAoO Chapter

To whom it may concern:

On behalf of SEAoO-OSU I would like to say thank you to those who participated in this year’s Mentoring Night. The event was a tremendous success thanks in large part to everyone that was there lending insight, wisdom, or just socializing with our younger, future engineers.

By means of specific mention I would like to especially thank the presenters, Dale Schiefer and Antonio Verne, for the time they devoted to this event in travel and in preparing their respective presentations. Seeing abstract engineering projects shows that there is a lot more to structural engineering than just codes and tables. I would also like to thank Matt Inkrott and Fae Garstang for their time in helping us coordinate the event. Additionally, a special thank you goes to the Ohio Contractor’s Association for kindly allowing us to use their facility for our meeting.

Lastly, I would like to thank our advisors, Carrie Bremer and Bernie Kooi, for their continual support of our younger members as we attempt to bridge the gap between what we learn in school and what it takes to be a practicing structural engineer.

As mentioned before, we greatly appreciate everyone that participated in Mentoring Night, making it the great success that is was. Every interaction we have with the professional engineering world and those that run it makes joining the workforce a less daunting task and more of an exciting, attainable goal. We hope to see you at next year’s Mentoring Night!

Thank You,
Russell Boroski
SEAoO-OSU President
