Presentation subjects will include:

-  How current project delivery methods influence development of structural criteria

-  Limits to movement and deflection required for curtainwall function

-  General curtainwall types and how they should be supported

-  Common connection methods and why contractors prefer them

-  Submittals for loads imposed on structure

 

About the Presenter:

Michael Lewis is a forensic architect specializing in exterior wall design and rehabilitation. He has assessed, rehabilitated, or constructed over $700 million of facades on nearly $7 billion of existing and new buildings internationally. His experience includes the diagnosis of distressed facades, founding the practice that assists design of durable enclosures, providing expert witness to resolve construction and contract matters, educating peers in technical seminars, and teaching graduate students as Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati's top-ranked School of Architecture. As an ASTM Fellow and TMS member, he authors code and standards used internationally to improve building quality.

Mike is the President of Facade Forensics Inc.. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture in 1984 and a Master's degree in Structural Engineering in 1992 at University of Cincinnati. He has received numerous awards including the ASTM International Walter C. Voss Award in 2008 for outstanding contributions to knowledge and advances in field of building technology, and the Award of Merit and Daniel W. Kessler Award by ASTM International Committee on Dimension Stone in 2010. The Award of Merit is ASTM's highest recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
