A European Approach to Moment-Resisting Beam-Column Joints  (1.5 PDH)

Join us for ice cream, beer, and two presentations by Italian researchers on the following topics:

1) European pre-QUALified steel JOINTS: The EQUALJOINTS project (R.Landolfo)

The first presentation briefly describes the activities carried out within the "Equaljoints" research project, which was mainly devoted to the development of seismic prequalification procedures for 3 types of bolted beam-to-column connections. In addition, the main findings obtained from experimental tests and numerical analyses are also discussed.

2) Experimental response and design guidelines of European pre-QUALified steel JOINTS (M. D'Aniello)

The second presentation shows the design procedure of the prequalified joints. The analytical calculation models are also described. In addition, the effectiveness of the design procedure is discussed on the basis of the experimental results obtained within a  comprehensive experimental campaign on both interior and exterior joints.

Presenters:
R. Landolfo

Raffaele is a Full Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II,” where he teaches courses on steel structures, seismic design, and "Sustainable Constructions Under Natural Hazards and Catastrophic Events."  He is a corresponding member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Task Committee 9 – Seismic.  Dr. Landolfo published a book and more than 400 scientific papers, mainly on national and international journals and international conferences, on topics related to metal structures and seismic design. He is structural designer of several steel structures including the space structure of Malpensa airport in Milan (in cooperation) and the steel structures of the extension of the Architectural Faculty in Pescara. 

M. D'Aniello, Structural Engineering Associates Inc.

Mario is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II,” where he teaches structural design, steel structures, seismic design, and "Sustainable Constructions Under Natural Hazards and Catastrophic Events."  He developed an award-winning special type of hysteretic device to improve the seismic performance of existing buildings based on the concept of buckling-restrained braced.  Dr. D'Aniello published a book and more than 200 publications on topics related to seismic design, including retrofits and composite materials.
